I'M STILL TRYIN' EVERYTHING TO KEEP YOU ... from the days where he started karting, people lauded oliver ardon as a driver who was born to be in a car. the dutch driver was born the second son of former formula one driver, hugo ardon; a man who was once held in the same regard as his son... but, like so many others, could not withstand the pressures or formula one racing... a man who could not keep up with the drivers he grew up around. from the birth of his first son, maxwell, hugo was obsessed with moulding his sons into world champions ⸻ to make them what he never was.no matter the cost.oliver grew up around karting and race tracks; dragged to his brother's races or his fathers from the moment he could walk, so he could get the love for racing in his veins... his father had said. admittedly, it worked. oliver fell in love with the sport, in love with the adrenaline and thrill... the way the drivers had, what seemed to him to be, superhuman powers.when oliver was four, his father put him behind the wheel of one of his brother's older karts, taking him to a local track ⸻ acting as though it was just a simple father and son outing... but, when it came to hugo ardon, there was no such thing as simple. hugo had stood there the whole time; timing his son, filming his laps so that they had a reference point, devising a training plan. throughout the course of the next year, hugo had honed his sons skills down to something of a fine point. preparing him for competitive karting between taking maxwell to his own competitions. at the age of five, oliver entered his first competitive karting race; where he finished third in a field of four. unsatisifed with this result, hugo went back to training with his son for another six months before entering another race ⸻ part of a standalone tournament this time. oliver won two out of five races, finishing a respective fourth, seventh and third in the other races; for an overall second place in his first tournament.

at first, winning or finishing in the top three was rewarded ⸻ often with simple praise, hugs, or even some small reward like pizza on the way home. but losing? missing the podium? this would result in things like silent treatment, being yelled at and berated in the sanctity of his motorhome ⸻ hugo often telling his son that he wasn't good enough, that his talent was going to waste with him. . . even sometimes going as far as to say that he shouldn't have been born. there were even times when these moments would lead to physical retaliation from his father. over time, these remarks would build a growing fear of loss and an incessant need to be the best on track. he wanted the praise, he wanted his father to be proud... he longed for the kind words that would be said. so he worked. he spent hours a day training, weeks practicing and learning the tracks that he would be racing at.over, nearly, the next decade, oliver progressed through karting - taking a number of titles and championships (both national and international) with him. all his practice created the illusion of having a natural talent for being behind the wheel; being able to create gaps from nothing, being able to take advantage of corners or less than ideal racing conditions... and maybe there was something natural about it... but he would always maintain that it came from his hard work and practice. he became so eager to win that it could nearly have been classed as an obsession - if he didn't win, he would spend hours going over every little detail of his race trying to figure out where he went wrong.

just shy of his fiteenth birthday is when oliver progressed into the lower levels of open⸻wheel and single seater racing; with his entrances in both the florida winter series and the italian f4 championship. while he won neither, he was content with fourth and second, respectively, in both championships and a handful of wins in each. the following year, he competed in formula renault 3.5 and the f3 cup. his season in formula renault would be the last time that the dutch driver finished lower than first until his move to toro rosso; securing a second and first, respectively. in his third year in cars, oliver competed in the fia formula 3 european championship, securing a win in all bar two of his races; he competed in the british gt3 championship alongside this, securing 8 out of 9 wins in the series for a decisive first place. driving for van amersfoort racing, oliver took first place in formula two. many people considered the male a generational talent, someone who was a natural and born to behind the wheel. some questioned whether he would be able to continue this level of driving at the top level, or whether he would be like so many young drivers who fade away into obscurity because of formula one.two years were spent in the sister red bull team; two years where oliver greatly exceeded the expectations set for him ⸻ dragging a car destined for the midfield to sixth and fifth in his two years there, coupled with his maiden win and a handful of podiums. when her moved to the red bull team in 2020, oliver, again, exceeded expectations that were laid out in front of him. third in his first season for the team, followed by four consecutive championships. these years, however, were not without their controversies ⸻ his aggressive driving style coming under fire from many people, even some of those closest to him... his aggression causing moments of brain snaps and moments of lashing out on and off track....
